Who We Are
In 1972, a group of UBC law students decided to create an independent, non-profit group dedicated to educating people about the law.
Although we initially operated in Greater Vancouver only, by 1975 we began to provide public legal education to people in BC’s Island and Interior communities. We also began to provide public legal education to people in BC’s immigrant communities in their own languages.
Our Purpose
Today, more than 30 years later, we remain committed to our original goal of helping people throughout BC gain a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities under the law. Then as now, we are an independent, non-profit, non-political Society whose purpose is to provide British Columbians – especially those with particular legal needs – with reliable and impartial information about the law.
We do this by means of speakers, training workshops, publications, theatre, and special events.
Please read our most recent Annual Reports & Newsletters for more information about our activities and accomplishments. You can also read about our legal status.
