Justice Theatre
Our Justice Theatre troupe consists of six professional actors who stage scripted dramatizations of criminal trials for students in elementary and secondary schools throughout the school year in Vancouver, the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley. (When funding permits, our Justice Theatre also goes on tour to Vancouver Island and Interior communities.)
The Justice Theatre offers hour-long performances on a range of topics affecting young people, including bullying, street racing, shoplifting and hate crimes. These performances are a great way to raise awareness and to stimulate discussion of these issues among students.
Each performance includes an introduction, presentation of evidence, jury deliberation, and student discussion. The interactive nature of these performances will involve students as decision-makers.
Student response to our evaluations of Justice Theatre performances indicates that they find the theatre performances 1) an excellent way to learn about Canada's justice system, 2) definitely increase their understanding of the legal issue addressed, and 3) lead to a better understanding of how a Canadian trial works.
In order to defray the costs of operating the Justice Theatre, we are required to charge schools a cost-recovery fee. The fee is $450 per performance.
